Kyle was stung by a bee for the first time last Monday (just about one week ago). She was stung on the side of her big toe. She had the typical pain, swelling, redness, etc. that slowly improved by the end of the day. The next day, she was good to go.

Fast forward to tonight. The same area where she was stung suddenly started to itch, with some minor swelling a lot of redness around the same area where she was stung last week. Her big toe, the side and top of her foot are affected.

It was really bothering her tonight with a lot of itching and some pain (she started to cry). I gave her Benedryl by mouth as well as some cream. I think the Benedryl (oral) seemed to help after a little while because she finally calmed down.

Of course I'll check it in the morning and call the doctor if it looks funny, but what the heck could this be? Is it possible to have a second reaction a week later?

I got the entire stinger out when it happened.

Thanks!

Off to the doc. Her little foot looks like a little balloon. Very red and hot to the touch. [&:]

I was going to suggest maybe a secondary infection? I wouldn't think there would be a reaction a week later, but who knows.

Thanks ladies. Yep, it's an infection. Total bummer, but not too uncommon, I guess. Pretty strong antibiotic FOUR TIMES A DAY for TEN DAYS.Angry[:'(] That's the biggest bummer.

YES!!! I'm trying to figure out how to best space everything. I know it's best to give them as far from the abx as possible. Crap, when you're giving the abx 4 times a day (during the daytime only), when do I give the probiotics??[&:]

Any thoughts???

I try to give them 1 hour before abx so they can get in and get working. the abx effect will last longer so the further after the more likely they won't just die right off.
